Spring 2008 -
Project Description: Research will be performed to explore how to reduce the burden on a central server in a massive online multiplayer game setting by allowing client machines to communicate directly. The server should supply the initial connection point and any data not stored on the clients. Software will be written to test the ideas and a paper will be written and reviewed, documenting the implemented methods and results.
Materials: One server computer, multiple desktop computers, networking devices, and software development tools.
Weekly Progress: Tuesday mornings will be set aside to update the project’s status. A progress page will be updated weekly with new status
Goal: The project’s goal is to produce a paper with findings to be submitted to a respectable journal and a demonstration highlighting the findings.
Grading: Grading scale will be based on the quality of the final product, with a production of a final paper capable of publication submission being the requirement for an A grade.
